Altinity and EnterpriseDB Are Joining Forces to Deliver Sovereign AI Data Systems

Altinity has been acquired! We are joining EnterpriseDB (EDB) to help build an industry-leading sovereign AI data system that operates in any environment. The tie-up benefits our customers and provides a long term home for Altinity technology. It also gives our team the chance that we live for as engineers: to create ground-breaking products that solve the challenging problem of uniting modern AI advances with enterprise data.
But perhaps I’m jumping ahead. Here’s what’s happening today. Altinity is now the EDB Real-Time Analytics group, reporting directly to the EnterpriseDB CEO, Kevin Dallas. Customer contracts remain the same, the SLAs are the same, the products and services are the same. And our users still have the same great team of engineers helping them build and run groundbreaking analytics on ClickHouse® software. The entire management team remains in place. Got a question? We’re available to answer via the usual channels.
Here is what does change. Altinity is now part of a bigger organization that shares our commitment to support open source, with the resources to meet long-term obligations to customers and the open source community. We are also teamed up with the leading company for Postgres databases. We’re not just ClickHouse® experts anymore!
There is far more to come. AI agents and agentic development are opening up a new world of software that feeds off the vast pools of data generated by modern enterprises. Those datasets are growing rapidly, and users need quick insights from them. Our customers want to keep the data inside their own cloud accounts and data centers, safe from attackers and out of training sets that might be accessed by competitors. These are inspiring challenges.
At Altinity we have spent years helping customers address problems with cost, performance, and data security that arise in such systems. We are deeply familiar with open source technologies like Kubernetes, ClickHouse® software, Apache Iceberg–these are the emerging foundation for AI-ready systems that can run inside customer environments. We act on our ideas, too. Altinity has a long history of firsts like the first Kubernetes Operator for ClickHouse® (or any analytic database for that matter), the first Amazon Cloud service, and the first Bring-Your-Own-Cloud (BYOC) implementation.
Advances in AI and agentic applications are leading to a generational shift in data management. New data architectures are based on open source databases, data and AI located in customer environments, centralized security through OAuth2 and data lake catalogs, as well as open standards like Model Context Protocol (MCP). We know because we work with customers every day as they build such systems themselves. We began to ask the question: how can Altinity help customers meet the moment? And how can we do it quickly?
The answer to these questions led us to EDB, and their vision of EDB Postgres AI. The core resonated with us. The notions of sovereign data and AI matched well with our own ideas of allowing customers to manage databases and AI in any location. Further complements became apparent as we dug deeper.
EDB is the #1 commercial contributor in the open source Postgres community, and like us support many community events and GitHub projects. They possess deep database internals knowledge in topics like scalable join algorithms and transaction processing, matching our expertise in columnar storage, cloud operation, and real-time SQL query. Their sales and support organizations handle the needs of 1,700 global enterprise customers across a wide range of industries that depend on mission critical data, systematic governance and real time analytics. Finally they have an encompassing architectural vision for sovereign data and AI that aligns with our existing technology and services.
The final step was when Kevin Dallas and I met directly to discuss how we could join forces. We didn’t focus on details of technology or go-to-market. Instead, we spent most of our time on culture: shared values of supporting customers, staff, and open source community, and how to build a single company on those values. That was the point where we both became sold on the deal.
Altinity is now part of EDB, building amazing products with an amazing team and the most creative customers on the planet. Altinity customers can rest assured that we will continue to help them build and operate their current systems, only better. We will share the broader vision over the days and weeks to come, with new products to follow soon. I invite our customers and open source users to join us as we shape the next generation of data and AI systems. Let’s build something amazing together.
