Devopsdays Philadelphia 2025 Talk - DevOps is a Foreign Language
Our colleague Joshua Lee will be speaking at Devopsdays Philadelphia 2025: DevOps is a Foreign Language. A language is more than just the syntax and semantic rules of the words themselves. It also encompasses the shared culture of the speakers. With the proliferation of programming languages as well as the deeply held cultural beliefs of the community, it's easy to see that learning DevOps is like trying to learn a foreign language. Josh will review five foundational hypotheses from the field of Second Language Acquisition and relate these hypotheses back to the world of DevOps. DevOps practitioners, trainers, tool builders, and learners should all come away with useful insights to apply to their practice.

DevOpsCon New York + Kubernetes Camp Talk: Fast, Cheap, DIY Observability with Open Source Analytics and Visualization
Joshua Lee - Open Source Developer Advocate at Altinity, will be speaking at DevOpsCon New York - Fast, Cheap, DIY Observability with Open Source Analytics and Visualization. Observability is the key to the successful operation of any software service, but commercial solutions are complex, expensive, and slow. Why not do it yourself? This talk will show you how to combine open source services like ClickHouse, OpenTelemetry, and Grafana to deliver simple, fast, and cost-effective monitoring. First, we'll introduce key elements of your monitoring solution: ingest, query, and visualization. We'll then dig into an example system showing how to store data efficiently, build queries, and create operational dashboards. Finally, we’ll talk about scaling to trillions of rows of data.
