Altinity.Cloud for ClickHouse® at Unbeatable Hetzner Prices is now GA!

Good, Fast, and Cheap – pick all three!

Since our announcement in November (see our post Announcing Altinity.Cloud for ClickHouse® at Unbeatable Hetzner prices), we have been maturing our Hetzner offering to provide best-of-class ClickHouse service at low cost. We have polished a few sharp edges and are ready to announce the general availability of Altinity.Cloud at Hetzner!

Hetzner Hosting Options (SaaS & BYOC)

First of all, we have equal support for fully managed ClickHouse as a service in both Altinity’s Hetzner account (SaaS) and in your Hetzner project (BYOC). BYOC lets you own all the infrastructure and only use Altinity for managing the service and supporting your ClickHouse applications. 

We have also added a Terraform provider for managed ClickHouse at Hetzner to make it easy to set up clusters programmatically. Our recent blog post, Using Terraform and Altinity.Cloud to create ClickHouse® clusters in your cloud infrastructure, has all the technical details if you’d like to use Terraform to create a ClickHouse cluster in your Hetzner account. 

Lastly, we moved all our images to a separate registry in order to make sure docker pull limits do not interfere with operations.

Hetzner SaaS Pricing (with AWS Cost Comparison)

It’s really cheap! The smallest single-node instance with 100GB of storage is $180 per month with Enterprise support included. This is simply the best offer on the market. It can effectively be used for development and non-critical applications. The smallest HA cluster with two replicas starts from $360 a month. And that’s for a fully managed highly available service on a dedicated hardware with support!

The pricing is based on the number of nodes, vCPUs and amount of storage. Prices in the table below are for those individual components. AWS prices are included for comparison, and everything is in $$ per month:

Hetzner Reliability and Resource Limits

Yes, it is! The biggest problem we have faced is limited availability of resources when starting a new environment or creating big ClickHouse clusters. This is because Hetzner sets pretty low resource limits by default; when you try Hetzner Cloud in BYOC mode, you’re likely to hit those limits even on your first ClickHouse cluster! So if you’re using BYOC mode, request a limit increase before getting started. (SaaS deployments in Altinity’s account aren’t a problem, since we’ve already raised limits for our projects.)

But once all resources are in place, it just works!
