Bay Area Data on Kubernetes – May 2023 Edition

May 17 @ 6:00 pm 8:00 pm PDT

Presenter: Prasad Dorbala & Robert Hodges

Welcome to the first official Bay Area Data on Kubernetes meetup!

We’ll be meeting at a venue kindly provided by Avesha. Please RSVP if you plan to attend–we need to estimate attendance. Doors open at 6 pm for networking. We’ll start the festivities by 6:30 pm.

Here is the agenda.

  • [6:00 pm] Doors open
  • [6:30 pm] Welcome and announcements from meetup organizers
  • [6:40 pm] Multi-cluster data management on Kubernetes using layered operators by Prasad Dorbala Co-founder and CPO @Avesha. (Full description on the way)
  • [7:10 pm] Repel Boarders! How to find a Kubernetes operator that really protects your data by Robert Hodges of Altinity. Operators are a godsend for managing databases in Kubernetes. But how about protecting data? We’ll explore security threats to cloud-native databases and show how what protection you should look for in operators. Finally, we’ll introduce a new DoK project to develop security standards for database operators in Kubernetes.
  • [8:00 pm] Follow-on discussion and networking

We have room for another short talk. We’re also looking for sponsors for food and drink.

If you would like to present at this or a future Bay Area DoK meetup please message the organizers or join the DoK Slack Workspace. We’re looking for educational, technical talks that dig deep into experience running databases on Kubernetes. No marketing fluff, ever!
