Situation
Positional was in the process of launching a new product. That product was data intensive, had a number of large aggregations and needed extremely fast query times. The scope was intimidating: they have roughly 5TB of data and execute roughly 100 analytics queries per second. And each of those queries encompasses millions of rows!
They had previous experience with Postgres and evaluated TimescaleDB, but it was clear ClickHouse was the right solution for a workload of this size.
Problem
As an earlier stage startup, Positional had better things to do than worry about monitoring and maintaining ClickHouse clusters. On top of that, they didn’t have the in-house knowledge to architect an ideal setup.
