SUMMARY:Code Europe 2026 Talk - Magical Mystery Tour: A Roundup of Observability Datastores
DESCRIPTION:Conference Talk\n\n\n\nCode Europe 2026 Talk – Magical Mystery Tour: A Roundup of Observability Datastores\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJosh Lee takes the stage in Warsaw on September 14-15. \n\n\n\nFrom plain-old Postgres to the Grafana stack (Loki\, Grafana\, Tempo\, and Mimir)\, OpenSearch\, Cassandra\, and ClickHouse®\, the landscape of telemetry storage options is as vast as it is overwhelming. With so many choices\, how do we decide which datastore is right for the job? \n\n\n\nIn this talk\, Joshua will guide attendees through the foundational principles of telemetry – covering metrics\, traces\, logs\, profiles\, and wide events – and break down the strengths and limitations of different database technologies for each use case. \n\n\n\n\n\nWe’ll examine how traditional relational databases like Postgres can still hold their own\, where OpenSearch and Prometheus fit into the picture\, and why specialized stacks like LGTM (Loki\, Grafana\, Tempo\, Mimir) are so popular in modern observability pipelines. \n\n\n\nAnd\, of course\, we’ll highlight the growing role of ClickHouse as a versatile and high-performance option for logs\, traces\, and more\, and VictoriaMetrics as a drop-in replacement for Prometheus. \n\n\n\nBy the end of this session\, attendees will have a clearer understanding of the trade-offs between these datastores and how to make informed decisions based on the unique requirements of their systems. Whether you’re building an observability stack from scratch or looking to optimize an existing setup\, this tour of the observability datastore landscape will leave you better equipped to navigate the options. \n\n\n\n\nRegister now\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Presenter \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoshua Lee – Open Source Developer Advocate at Altinity \n\n\n\nWhether it’s operators or observability\, agile or accessibility\, his expertise shines because he is passionate about all of it. He’s been building software for more than a decade\, and he loves sharing experiences via public speaking. He is currently a Developer Advocate for Altinity\, where he helps create educational content about ClickHouse® and OpenTelemetry\, and he is a contributor to the OpenTelemetry project. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nWant more great content? SUMMARY:Community Over Code Glasgow 2026 Talk: Don't Fire Your Developers and Other Lessons for the AI Revolution
DESCRIPTION:CONFERENCE TALK\n\n\n\nCommunity Over Code Glasgow 2026 Talk: Don’t Fire Your Developers and Other Lessons for the AI Revolution \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nCommunity Over Code Glasgow 2026 is the premier annual gathering for Apache Software Foundation members\, committers\, and open source developers from around the world. Taking place October 11–14 at the Hilton Glasgow\, the conference features four full days of sessions focused on Search\, Big Data\, Internet of Things\, Community\, Geospatial\, Financial Tech\, and many more topics. \n\n\n\nOur CEO\, Robert Hodges\, will present his talk: \n\n\n\n\nDon’t Fire Your Developers and Other Lessons for the AI Revolution.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAI is going to alter the world. Will it lead to a golden age\, human extinction\, or just one more technical advance? History tells us that the winners in the race will be those who best merge human capabilities with the power of AI. We’ll talk about how this is already playing out in analytics and open source software. SUMMARY:ATO 2026 - All Things Open 2026 - Observability is Broken and Open-Source (will be) the Solution
DESCRIPTION:Conference Talk\n\n\n\nATO 2026 – All Things Open 2026 – Observability is Broken and Open-Source (will be) the Solution\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJosh Lee\, Developer Advocate at Altinity\, is attending All Things Open 2026\, the East Coast’s largest open source and tech conference\, held October 19 and 20 at the Raleigh Convention Center in Raleigh\, NC. Year 14 brings a new two-day format with extended workshops\, deep dive sessions\, co-located events\, and a traditional conference day. \n\n\n\nThe Observability industry is built on a fundamental promise: Send all of your telemetry data to your vendor of choice\, and they will apply their magic sauce to turn that telemetry into “insights.” \n\n\n\n\n\nIn the beginning\, this promise was predicated on fundamental truths inherent in all SaaS models of the era: the data being sent was not too large\, and not too valuable. We were content to ship our data off to become part of our vendors’ statistical data models. \n\n\n\nBut that balance has shifted. Data volumes have grown exponentially – observability data doubly so. With this increased volume has come an even larger increase in Observability costs that can no longer be ignored. Every vendor now charges directly or based on some approximation of bytes ingested. \n\n\n\nAnd now we all dream of using our data to train our own models; wouldn’t that be liberating? This is only possible if we retain our data\, or if our vendors were to somehow open up APIs allowing us to access it within their walled gardens. \n\n\n\nOpenTelemetry is just the beginning of this sea-change. First\, it solved the problem of massive duplicated effort and lack of interoperability in the instrumentation layer. Now organizations are beginning to adopt the OpenTelemetry Collector as a way to change telemetry destinations in an instant. \n\n\n\nBut Observability can never be truly vendor-neutral – and open – until the storage layer is open\, standardized\, and hostable anywhere. \n\n\n\nRegister now\n\n\n\nAbout the Presenter \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoshua Lee – Open Source Developer Advocate at Altinity \n\n\n\nWhether it’s operators or observability\, agile or accessibility\, his expertise shines because he is passionate about all of it. SUMMARY:Cloud Native Days Warsaw 2026 Keynote - Zen AI Cohabitation: How I learned to embrace the slop
DESCRIPTION:Conference Talk\n\n\n\nCloud Native Days Warsaw 2026 Keynote – Zen AI Cohabitation: How I learned to embrace the slop\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAI now drafts our posts\, edits our videos\, and writes our code\, and companies expect their teams to embrace it without asking what that costs our creativity or our mental health. \n\n\n\nIn Zen AI Cohabitation: How I Learned to Embrace the Slop\, Josh Lee\, Open Source Advocate at Altinity\, and Adriana Villela\, Principal Developer Advocate at Dynatrace\, look at how the AI boom reshaped the technology industry and how we can lean on our AI minions to produce meaningful\, creative\, non-slop work. \n\n\n\nCatch the keynote at Cloud Native Days Poland 2026 on October 22 at Varso Tower in Warsaw. \n\n\n\n\n\nOur tech lives are surrounded by AI. Everywhere we look: social media posts\, videos\, blog posts\, and code. Companies expect employees to embrace AI\, but at what cost? And what’s it doing to our mental health? While it’s satisfying to create with AI\, it feels like we’re also losing a bit of our humanity and creativity along the way. \n\n\n\nIn this talk\, Adriana and Josh look at how the world of technology has changed due to the AI boom\, and how we can lean on our AI minions to produce meaningful\, creative\, non-slop work. \n\n\n\nRegister now\n\n\n\nAbout the Presenters \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoshua Lee – Open Source Developer Advocate at Altinity \n\n\n\nWhether it’s operators or observability\, agile or accessibility\, his expertise shines because he is passionate about all of it. SUMMARY:Cloud Native Denmark 2026 talks - Whose Code is it Anyways? and Beyond the Data Swamp: Building Your Semantic Observability Mesh
DESCRIPTION:Conference Talk\n\n\n\nCloud Native Denmark 2026 talks – Whose Code is it Anyways? and Beyond the Data Swamp: Building Your Semantic Observability Mesh\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJosh Lee takes the stage twice in Copenhagen on November 19\, first on keeping open source healthy in the AI era\, then on turning telemetry sprawl into a semantic observability mesh. \n\n\n\nAltinity is on the programme twice in a single day at Cloud Native Denmark 2026\, the Copenhagen conference for the platform engineers\, SREs\, and architects running the Nordics’ most demanding cloud native systems. \n\n\n\nIn Whose Code is it Anyways?\, Adriana Villela\, Principal Developer Advocate at Dynatrace\, and Josh Lee\, Open Source Advocate at Altinity\, make the case for bidirectional empathy in open source. \n\n\n\nAI lets contributors move faster than ever\, which leaves maintainers buried in low-quality pull requests and junior developers with no room to grow. Expect guardrails for AI-assisted PRs\, and a reminder that suggestions from juniors deserve a real hearing. \n\n\n\nIn Beyond the Data Swamp: Building Your Semantic Observability Mesh\, Graziano Casto and Josh Lee tackle the opposite end of the same problem. \n\n\n\n\n\nTeams collect more logs\, metrics\, and traces than ever and still go blind during incidents\, because the gap is shared understanding rather than data. The session shows how ClickHouse® handles telemetry at scale without wrecking the budget\, and how custom semantic layers validated with Weaver get every system speaking the same language. \n\n\n\nCatch both talks at Cloud Native Denmark 2026 on Thursday\, November 19 in Copenhagen. Whose Code is it Anyways? runs on the main stage from 16:00 to 16:25. \n\n\n\n\nRegister now\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Presenters \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoshua Lee – Open Source Developer Advocate at Altinity \n\n\n\nWhether it’s operators or observability\, agile or accessibility\, his expertise shines because he is passionate about all of it.
