SUMMARY:SRE DAY NYC 2026 Talk - Site Reliability\, DevOps and Cloud - OpenTelemetry Playtime is Over
DESCRIPTION:Conference Talk\n\n\n\nSRE DAY NYC 2026 Talk – Site Reliability\, DevOps and Cloud – OpenTelemetry Playtime is Over\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur Open Source Advocate\, Joshua Lee\, will be speaking at SREday New York – Site Reliability\, DevOps and Cloud – OpenTelemetry Playtime is Over. \n\n\n\nSo you finally got your organization to invest in OpenTelemetry. You carefully evaluated observability backends and picked the perfect one. Everything is awesome. Then\, twelve months later\, your costs have skyrocketed\, and you can’t explain why. What happened? \n\n\n\nThis talk examines how to emit meaningful telemetry while keeping costs under control\, by exploring: \n\n\n\n\nWhat to actually instrument\n\n\n\nWhich metrics to focus on\n\n\n\nPipeline efficiency with OTel Arrow\n\n\n\nApplying sampling\, filtering\, and intentional instrumentation to cut down on noise\n\n\n\nSchema management and validation with tools like Weaver\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe’ll review the ingredients of a mature observability implementation with OpenTelemetry — one that grows with you instead of overwhelming you. You’ll learn how to apply cost-effective techniques to achieve meaningful observability. \n\n\n\nAs more organizations embrace OpenTelemetry and mature their observability practice\, we find ourselves coming out of the OpenTelemetry “honeymoon period.” We’ve gone from “We’re using OpenTelemetry\, therefore we have observability” to “How do we actually make this work for us?” This talk will equip organizations to build a sustainable\, long-lasting observability practice built on OpenTelemetry. \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Presenters \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoshua Lee – Open Source Developer Advocate at Altinity \n\n\n\nWhether it’s operators or observability\, agile or accessibility\, his expertise shines because he is passionate about all of it. He’s been building software for more than a decade\, and he loves sharing experiences via public speaking. He is currently a Developer Advocate for Altinity\, where he helps create educational content about ClickHouse® and OpenTelemetry\, and he is a contributor to the OpenTelemetry project. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nWant more great content? SUMMARY:Kubernetes Community Days New York 2026 - Uncovered: The Hard Truth About OpenTelemetry's Vendor Neutrality
DESCRIPTION:Conference Talk\n\n\n\nKubernetes Community Days New York 2026 – Uncovered: The Hard Truth About OpenTelemetry’s Vendor Neutrality\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur Open Source Advocate\, Joshua Lee\, will be speaking at Kubernetes Community Days New York 2026 on June 10. \n\n\n\nWe still hear people saying\, “OpenTelemetry is vendor-neutral so you can switch vendors any time you want to.” This is like saying that because the vCard format exists\, it’s easy to switch from iOS to Android. Sure\, your core data will ultimately be portable\, but you’ll be missing a *lot* of other things. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Presenter \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoshua Lee – Open Source Developer Advocate at Altinity \n\n\n\nWhether it’s operators or observability\, agile or accessibility\, his expertise shines because he is passionate about all of it. SUMMARY:Kubernetes Community Days New York 2026 - Panel: Telemetry That Matters
DESCRIPTION:Conference Talk\n\n\n\nKubernetes Community Days New York 2026 – Panel: Telemetry That Matters\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe’re excited to share that Joshua Lee\, our Open Source Advocate\, will be joining the stage at Kubernetes Community Days New York 2026! He’ll be part of a panel discussion on Telemetry That Matters\, alongside Carol Valencia (Cloud Architect at KrolCloud and Open-Source Contributor) and Diana Todea (Developer Experience Engineer at VictoriaMetrics). \n\n\n\nThis panel brings together practitioners across open standards\, developer experience\, and real-world reliability engineering. The discussion will examine how zero-code instrumentation affects workflows and system understanding\, how meaningful telemetry improves day-to-day engineering work\, and why unfiltered or unstructured data often has the opposite effect. The conversation will cover practical lessons for filtering\, dropping\, reducing\, and shaping telemetry. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Presenters \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoshua Lee – Open Source Developer Advocate at Altinity \n\n\n\nWhether it’s operators or observability\, agile or accessibility\, his expertise shines because he is passionate about all of it.
