Open Source Database Best Practices is the event on the recent open source database technologies explained by those who creates them. Come learn from lead database development experts representing ProxySQL, Altinity & Gridgain!

Talk 1 Topic: “ProxySQL 2.0.8: New Features”

ProxySQL, the high performance, high availability, protocol-aware proxy for MySQL is now GA in version 2.0.8.

In this talk we’ll discuss ProxySQL’s new features from the very recent 2.0 releases, including the improved support for AWS Aurora and Galera Cluster. Most importantly, we’ll tackle the practical side of things and explain MySQL users how the newly developed ProxySQL features can help them with their daily tasks and workloads.

Speaker: René Cannao founded ProxySQL in 2016 after developing it since 2013. He has over 15 years of experience as Database Administrator mostly on MySQL, working as Senior MySQL Support Engineer at Sun/Oracle, Senior Operational DBA at Blackbird, and consulting for small and large companies like Dropbox. In this period he build an analytic and problem solving mindset, he is always eager to take on new challenges, especially if they are related to high performance.

Talk 2 Topic: “Analytics at Speed: Introduction to ClickHouse and Common Use Cases”

ClickHouse is rapidly gaining a reputation as the fastest and most flexible data warehouse on the market. In this talk we’ll the business needs that drove development of a new open source data warehouse, then dive into the problems it can solve. We’ll show some of our favorite features and also cover developments in the ClickHouse ecosystem including improvements to storage management and operation on Kubernetes.

Speaker: Mikhail Filimonov is an engineer at Altinity, LTD. He is a committer and active participant in the ClickHouse project on Github. Misha’s recent work involves Kafka, multi-volume storage management, and log cleansing among many other topics. If you use ClickHouse you have probably already seen some of his many answers to user questions on Github or Telegram.

Talk 3 Topic: “How and why Apache Ignite™ is Changing from an In-Memory Data Grid into an In-Memory Database”

Apache Ignite™ is a rapidly changing platform: if you were to look at 3 years ago, you would see a completely different product. In this talk, we will follow the path that led Apache Ignite™ from a compute grid and data grid product to a distributed database and In-memory computing platform. We will examine technical tasks and decisions that were driving the transformations (as an example – how we added native persistence to Apache Ignite™) and will wrap up the talk with the outstanding problems that are going to be solved for Apache Ignite™.

Speaker: Alexey Goncharuk has worked in the software industry for over X years. His areas of expertise are distributed systems design, distributed caches and databases architecture, high-performance computing distributed frameworks, Java Concurrency. For the last 7 years, Alexey has worked on GridGain In-Memory computing platform. Also, he is an active member of the Apache community and Apache Ignite™ PMC member.
